Change is a major part of life and God’s plan. Changes happen everyday and they are ALL in God’s perfect will! The biggest change in my life was a mother’s worst nightmare!
It was August 3, 2008; my little boy, James Wyatt was eighteen months old. We were at a friend’s house on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We had been swimming. James Wyatt had a little life jacket that he wore all day. He had the best time that day. He had been jumping off the side of the pool, jumping off the diving board, just "swimming" up a storm. We had cooked supper and it was ready. I went to the pool and told all the kids it was time to get out. Allyson was six at the time. Tucker was five. I got James Wyatt out of the pool and took him inside to put a dry diaper on him. I put him on the floor in the kitchen and changed him. When he stood up, he wrapped his little arms around my neck as if to say “Goodbye, Mommy”. I did not know it at the time but that was what he was doing!!! I took him out to the patio where everyone was. I set him down to play with the dogs. I turned around, went maybe five steps into the kitchen, got a plate, put three shrimp and a spoonful of mashed potatoes on it and walked back outside. In a split second, he was gone. I asked, "Where is Wyatt?" We all began to look - a good friend of ours found him in the pool. They pulled him out and started CPR. I ran out. All the kids were standing around watching the whole thing. Bubba was on the phone with 911. We were not at his house so he started yelling, “What is the address here?” I said the address did not matter and grabbed him up in my arms and told Bubba’s wife “Let’s go!” We jumped in her truck and headed toward town.
We were about twenty minutes from the hospital. I held him in my arms and began to do CPR on him till we met the ambulance on the road. About two or three minutes before, we had passed a little church on the left. I did not see anything nor did I hear anything out loud, but it was as if Jesus was standing in the road saying, “Come unto ME”. God had him from there. I felt his little body relax and the most amazing peace fell over me. I told the girl that was driving that he was not responding. She told me to keep going! I knew the whole time that he was in God’s hands. HE had him. We got to the ambulance, and they started their stuff and headed to the hospital. We got there and I knew that he had gone HOME, but I could not tell anyone. The initial shock of the doctors and nurses saying he was gone was absolutely awful, but I knew and I had an extreme peace about everything.
He was an amazing little boy. Never cried! Was always happy. One time he was running 106.2 fever, but he still had a smile on his face. He was a special gift from God. My little piece of heaven!! He was all boy. Never a dull moment. Covered from head to toe in dirt. He loved anyone and everyone, and everyone loved him!!!! We were so blessed to have him the short little time that we did. To this day, I have an extreme peace. GOD IS GOOD!!!!!!! HE makes no mistakes!!
Faith is when you have gone to the edge of all you know - knowing that when you take a step God will give you a place to stand or wings to fly! HE has truly given me a place to stand or wings to fly over the last year and a half!!
The Peace of God which passes all understanding will keep your hearts and minds thru Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:7
