April 27, 2010 - Wesley Lynch

God’s Plans are always better than my plans. That’s not always easy to accept, but it’s always true. After graduating from college and getting married in 2006, I was ready for change. It was time to find a full-time job and start a brand new phase of my life. The future was wide open.

I was born in Ruston, attended elementary school, junior high, and high school in Ruston, and decided to stay in town and attend Louisiana Tech. I had lived my entire life in Ruston, LA 71270 and I was ready to move.

It was just time for a change of scenery, and in my eyes a new job was the perfect opportunity to make that happen. I joined Monster and Career Builder and began applying for various jobs around the country. Four months went by of sending resumes and filling out applications with little response. I was praying for God to direct my path throughout this search process, but desired that His path would lead me to someplace new. It felt like God was closing doors and directing my search a little closer to home. Within two weeks of job-hunting in Ruston, I was employed at Community Trust Bank.

I was happy to be employed, but this was the opposite of my plan. However, I knew that it was God’s Plan and decided to humble myself and accept the truth: God’s Plans are always better than my plans. In His Plan, my location didn’t need to change; my mindset needed to change. God wasn’t calling me to merely exist here and be frustrated about it. He wanted me to live here - get involved, connect with Christian community, and be His hands and feet here.

After swallowing my pride and changing my outlook, I was able to see the community and opportunities that were right in my back yard. Over time, I began to appreciate God’s Plan and have grown in my relationship with Him as a result of following His Will. Today I feel blessed to help lead worship at the Refuge, meet with our Young Couples small group, and be involved in the community.

As we journey through 40 Days of Change, remember that sometimes in life when you want to change your circumstances, God might want to change your outlook. I hope that you’ll let Him do exactly that.
